When I look at someone’s chart, it tells me a story. Sometimes a beautiful one, sometimes a tragic one, but most of the time it tells me both. What astrology has taught me like no one could ever teach me is that nothing is black and white. We like to believe that we are a certain way, and therefore, can’t be another way. We are multidimensional beings, with different realities, simultaneously. For this reason, we have to approach the birth chart in different ways to see what’s currently true.
Lana’s birth chart is rated with an ‘A’, which means her given birth time on Astro Theme is pretty reliable. Of course, keep in mind that everything written in this article is based on a birth chart, on Lana’s online persona and information that can be found online and in her lyrics. I, unfortunately, do not know Lana Del Rey personally so therefore all that is written here is speculation since I am not able to ask any questions that I would normally ask during a reading with someone. Let’s begin.
Under the chemtrails over the country club, yeah (you’re born in December and I’m born in June)
You’re born in December and I’m born in June (under the chemtrails over the country club, yeah)My Cancer is sun and my Leo is moon
My Cancer is sun and my Leo is moon
We know that Lana is an early Cancer, if she was born a few hours earlier she would have been a Gemini. Her sun is in Cancer, her moon is in Leo and she has a Scorpio rising. There are a few very interesting things happening in Lana’s chart which made me think of the song ‘Ride’. As humans, the thing we struggle with often, are the contradictions of our character. These contradictions are hard because it may betray the ideas we have of ourselves. In some cases others may find us unreliable and unpredictable because of these oppositions. But in my opinion, contradictions are what makes us and our lives the most interesting. It keeps us wondering, trying new things and creative. The beautiful monologue in the song Ride is proof that Lana is battling life’s paradoxes:
Because I was born to be the other woman
Who belonged to no one
Who belonged to everyone
Who had nothing
Who wanted everything
With a fire for every experience and an obsession for freedom that terrified me to the point that I couldn’t even talk about it
And pushed me to a nomadic point of madness that both dazzled and dizzied me
Let’s start with her Scorpio Ascendant. This rising sign would explain her magnetic and sometimes mysterious and sexual allure. The Ascendant shows us how we subconsciously present ourselves to the outer world. We have a wide conjunction with Saturn here. We do not like Saturn to be on the Ascendant (or in the first house) because it can give the native a depressed aura. Saturn gives restrictions and setbacks and this could mean that it takes Lana a longer time to fully express the characteristics of this powerful Scorpio ascendant. Saturn brings sadness, melancholia but also wisdom. Lana fans know this woman is very wise and mystical. This is not only found in her music but also in her looks and art.
Something that I’ve recently found and loved in Lana’s chart is that her Saturn is opposed to her Venus. This is not an easy aspect to deal with, especially when they are on the first and seventh house axis. We can expect Lana to battle with depression, body shaming, self-esteem issues and challenges related to self worth. On the bright side, we have Venus conjunct the North Node. This is happening directly on the DC (the 7th house). What makes this beautiful is that you can say that Lana Del Rey is made for the beauty of relationships and romance. Being loved and loving others is part of her destiny. We always like to believe that our destiny is linked to career, work and bettering the self, but what if we get used to the idea that some of us are really and truly made for love? I mean, it makes sense because all of her lyrics are filled with romance, nostalgia, poems and sensuality and it brings so much to the lives of millions of people.
What is also very noticeable in Lana’s music is that a lot of her songs are about past lovers and friendships. And of course, (old) Hollywood and California in general. She tells stories through her lyrics and you can visualise every word in every sentence. This is very Cancerian, as Cancer loves to hold on to memories, sometimes bad ones as much as good ones. The songs sometimes have a “the good old days kind of vibe” as we can feel her reminiscing about past romances. If you listen to Lana’s songs you will also find that a lot of her love songs are about waiting and longing – something that’s very Saturnian as Saturn rules time and restrictions. She unfortunately also has Chiron, the wounded healer, in the seventh house. This means she will deal with the wound of relationships but also will find a way to heal others with the pain of this exact wound. Placements can be beautiful and tragic at the same time.
I will love you till the end of time
I would wait a million years
Promise you’ll remember that you’re mine
Baby, can you see through the tears?
Love you more than those bitches before
Say you’ll remember, oh baby
Say you’ll remember, oh baby, ooh
I will love you till the end of time
Lana’s Sun and Mars are both located in the 8th house of depth, death, the occult and other people’s finances. This is not surprising as we all know Lana has been open about witchcraft. I mean, at one point she even revealed she used witchcraft against Trump. Asked about her love of the occult, Del Rey said: “I’m in line with Yoko [Ono] and John [Lennon] and the belief that there’s a power to the vibration of a thought. Your thoughts are very powerful things and they become words, and words become actions, and actions lead to physical charges (Billboard). Especially in her younger years, Lana sang a lot about other people’s money. Yes, 8th house themes are definitely part of the reason she became so popular. Listen to “Cola”, “Power, Money, Glory” or “National Anthem”.
I want money, power and glory
I want money and all your power, all your glory
Hallelujah, I wanna take you for all that you got
Another thing I’d love to mention is that Lana Del Rey has her moon in Leo, located in the 9th house. The 9th house gives her a need for freedom and space. She needs to experience life and love on her own. She can read all the books and poetry she wants but she knows that life is to be lived and felt. Life will be about learning and talking to other people. She will gravitate towards teachers and maybe older people who have experience, higher knowledge and wisdom. Her warm Leo moon placement will give her a cheerleader like spirit in her intimate relationships. Even though her underlying sadness will probably be present forever, others will always appreciate her for her kindness and encouragement. Remember, we can be sad and happy at the same time.
Happiness is a butterfly
Try to catch it like every night
It escapes from my hands into moonlight
Every day is a lullaby
I hum it on the phone like every night
And sing it for my babies on the tour life
Thank you so much for reading. Disclaimer: this is my personal astrological interpretation of Lana Del Rey based on information available online. I do not claim these things to be true, these all are interpretations.
