When I look at someone’s chart, it tells me a story. Sometimes a beautiful one, sometimes a tragic one, but most of the time it tells me both. What astrology has taught me like no one could ever teach me is that nothing is black and white. We like to believe that we are a certain way, and therefore, can’t be another way. We are multidimensional beings, with different realities, simultaneously. For this reason, we have to approach the birth chart in different ways to see what’s currently true.
Before we dive into the birth chart of Kanye (Ye) West, we have to keep in mind that his chart is rated with a C. Which means the birth time accuracy is questionable, unfortunately. Without an exact birth time, all the aspects planets are making are still accurate and based on those we can analyse a lot! After analysing his birth chart, I think the time could be pretty accurate when we consider the characteristics of the Cancer ascendant: receptive, reserved, emotional (living on the highs and lows), intuitive, creative and compassionate. When we look at the appearance of different cancer rising male celebs (Albert Einstein, Ben Affleck, Robert de Niro, The Weeknd, Paul Rudd), we may notice they all have slight droopy yet very kind eyes.
So first things first, Kanye Omari West was born on June 8th 1977 in Atlanta. This gives him a Gemini sun and a Pisces moon, which creates a square between these luminaries. This square tells us that Kanye’s expression (sun) and deeper emotional needs (moon) are often blocking each other. He might want to do one thing, but feels like doing another thing. Easy translation: the moon and sun are not working together with this square. His Gemini sun in the twelfth house wants to contemplate and create through spirituality. He probably feels better expressing himself outside of the public’s eye. There might even be a longing for solitude and a lot of privacy. He feels more comfortable having a smaller circle. With his Pisces moon on the other hand, he loves to share his emotions and the things that he learns and feels. In the ninth house this could be more direct and outwards. See how this is conflicting each other?

Another interesting thing in Kanye’s chart are the aspects the sun in Gemini is making to Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto. Jupiter, the planet of expansion, growth and succes is in conjunction with his Sun. This means the Sun and Jupiter are within 8 degrees, strengthening each other. What happens when the Sun and Jupiter conjunct? Well, this aspect gives you the ability to think big and see behind what seems impossible. It makes you a natural expander. Other people with this exact aspect? Lizzo, Robbie Williams, Mick Jagger, Adele, North West (wow, no wonder she acts like her dad), Woody Allen, Jake Paul. Can we all agree that most of these people carry some kind of extreme level of self-esteem? This doesn’t necessarily mean that they are confident people, but the sun reveals what we want to show the world and Jupiter magnifies exactly that. This man wrote and published a song called “I love Kanye” and I mean you kind of have to be very confident and comfortable with yourself to sing:

Let’s continue with Neptune, the planet of dreams, delusions, mysticism and spirituality. In Kanye’s chart, the sun is opposing Neptune. This means these two planets are opposite each other. An opposition creates tension and for Kanye this could mean he has issues seeing himself clearly. Or the other way around. This aspect probably leaves him feeling misunderstood most of the time. Kanye is known for being very artistic, having a wild imagination and making his visions come to life. But with this opposition there may be a deep insecurity and he may project himself differently to the outside world. This again, leaves Kanye feeling misunderstood and maybe even isolated.
Pluto, the planet of deep transformation and intensity is also involved with Kanye’s sun. This time, making a more positive aspect: a trine. The trine between Kanye’s sun in the 12th house and Pluto in the 4th house indicates these two planets are working together. This aspect naturally gives Kanye power and again, confidence without even trying. Sun trine Pluto is also responsible for Kanye’s need to going deeper and further than most people. Superficiality doesn’t exist when you have this aspect, there is a certain need to explore and carry heavier topics and understand life and relationships on a deeper level. Pluto in the fourth house reveals big transformation in the field of home, family, safety and emotional matters.
When we dive deeper into Ye’s family matters, we soon find out it’s hard to look at through rose coloured glasses. Kanye had a great relationship with his mother who he loved dearly. Sadly his mother, Donda, passed away when he was only 30. Kanye also raps a lot about his family. Sometimes he’s very critical and explains he can’t be bothered and forgets birthdays. On the other hand he shows signs of anxiety, voicing he can’t trust anyone. It looked like Kanye was going to have his happily ever after when he married Kim Kardashian in 2014 and got 4 beautiful children together. In 2021 Kim filed for divorce. We see Pluto creates a lot of disruption, intensity and transformation on this area of life for Kanye. He also sang about his cousin in “real friends”:
“I had a cousin that stole my laptop that I was fuckin’ bitches on
Paid that ‘X’ 250 thousand just to get it from him
Real friends
Huh?”`
Now, there is so much to unpack and I would probably need a few more hours to go through Kanye’s whole chart. To make this article readable, I’ve picked a couple more interesting astrological placements that stood out to me. Kanye once said:
“Never was much of a romanticI could never take the intimacyAnd I know it did damage‘Cause the look in your eyes is killin’ meI guess you knew of that advantage‘Cause you could blame me for everythingAnd I don’t know how I’ma manageIf one day you just up and leave
Kanye’s self sabotaging in romantic relationships is really noticeable in the song “Runaway”, where he sings about always picking the wrong girl and hurting the one’s he loves. This is one of the main themes of “My beautiful dark twisted fantasy”. Wikipedia states that his album explores themes of excess, celebrity, grandiosity, self-aggrandisement, self-doubt, romance, escapism, decadence, and sex. Which is interesting, because these are all the themes that stand out, looking at the chart at first glance. So what is happening romantically in the chart? First, Kanye has a Venus in Taurus – which is actually a pretty comfortable spot for Venus, the planet of love and beauty. However, Venus is conjunct Mars AND Chiron and also opposing Uranus. This makes is harder for this beautiful placement to shine.
Venus in earthy Taurus people are creative, sensual and have a passion for aesthetics. This is not a surprise since Kanye is a fashion designer who works mostly with ‘basics’ and earth tones. Some people (himself included) call Ye a Genius on the subjects of art, music and fashion. Mars (planet of aggression and motivation) and Chiron (also called the wounded healer) are coming together with Venus – making it harder for Ye to form stable and harmonious relationships. It’s likely that Ye prefers relationships that add passion, drama, pain and intensity to his life. Some people love to fight for their relationships, otherwise it doesn’t feel real, that’s presumably the case for West.
It doesn’t stop there, Uranus (the planet of change, innovation and unpredictability) is also linked to Venus and not in the best way. These two planets form an opposition that creates an imbalance. This may not come as a surprise but this means that there needs to be a balance between harmony and excitement within intimate relationships. This could be one of the reasons why it’s hard for Ye to stay passionate on a romantic level. This aspect of Uranus connected to Venus could also indicate Ye is attracted to less traditional relationships or people that go against social norms. The smallest manifestation of this, is seen in the way Kanye dresses or dresses his partners. He is a trendsetter but not without the controversies that come with it. Ye has been in the news over political ‘fashion’ choices in the past.
